Description
This yarn was bought in the med to late 50s by my mother and was never used or removed from the box until now. The yarn has been pack away for the last 60 years or so. This is a box of 8 spools of vintage Lily Mills Floss Mercerized cotton yarn for weaving, crochet, and embroidering. The Lily Mills Co. was founded in North Carolina and became well known for their fine quality cotton yarn and other textile products and accessories. The company continued production for many years until a fire closed the company in 1973. Each spool measures 2″ across by 2.75″ tall and they are full and unused and still in the original rapping and box. I have seen references that these spools contain about 200 yards of yarn but cannot verify that number for sure. The box is markings Eight – 2oz. tubes, Art.: 108, Color: 1, Size: 8 – 2. I do not know how that happen out of all of the boxes of yarn i have none of the boxes have the same marks that is in the spools of yarn.
