Description
The Dirilyte product was originally called Dirigold. Carol Molin a metallurgist originally developed this bronze alloy product in Sweden in 1914. In 1924, a manufacturing plant was formed in Minneapolis, Minnesota U.S.A. to product the flatware and dinnerware under the name Dirigold. However, in 1935 the Federal Trade Commission sued the company stating that the name “Dirilgold” would mislead the public thinking that the bronze alloys metal would contain some gold in it. Therefore, the company changed the product and company name to Dirilyte. The Dirilyte Company of America operated until November of l97l when the product line and equipment were purchased by Hand Industries, Inc. in Warsaw, Indiana. The name remains as Dirilyte but was now a division of Hand Industries, Inc. The Dirilyte product line was production up to the 1986 at which time all production of Dirilyte was stopped. This serving plate is from my grandmother’s estate and she passed away in the mid-60s. However, she bought the serving plate in the 30s sometime. There is no hallmark on the bottom of this serving dish however; I do know it is Dirilyte. It has three leaf design feet on the bottom and Dirilyte wire carry handle on the top that folds down flat. This plate could use a little polishing. It is in mint condition with no cracks, chips, necks, scratches, fleabites, repairs, stains, or wears-marks. In addition, it looks like it has never been used.
