Description

This set of horse head incense holders are being sold as a pair. They are handcrafted using white Alabaster rock, which is sometime referred to as onyx-marble. They were made in Mexico in the early to mid-1950s for the United States tourist trade. There are no maker’s marks or signature on the horse head. Mexicans caved a lot of Alabaster rock into different shapes and designs for the main reason it was an easy rock to work with. In addition, the Alabaster rock is in larger quantities in Mexico. The hardness is from 1.5 to 2 on the Moh’s scale for rocks. It is found in many colors. This set of Alabaster horse head is nicely carved. One horse head has two holes (the tan one) on the top of the head for two incense sticks and the other horse head has one hole on the top of the head. (the white one) They are in mint condition with cracks, chips, necks, scratches, fleabites, repairs, stains, wears-marks, and have not been modified in any way. In addition, it looks like it has never been used.
